Cheltenham (Costwolds)

Cheltenham was first recorded in 803, however very little is known about the town before the discovery of its mineral springs in 1716 – which allowed the town to flourish. Henry Skillicorne realised the potential of the mineral water and decided to capitalise on this in 1738, introducing a pump and building an elaborate well-house for his customers to enjoy and relax at. The mineral water can still be enjoyed today at the Pittville Pump Room which was completed in 1830.

Attend Cheltenham Festival in March which is a steeplechase horse racing event, which was first established in 1902 and since has proven to be very popular. The racecourse attracts thousands of visitors during the festival and promises to provide excitement for all.

There is always plenty to do in Cheltenham, as the town also hosts several other festivals and events throughout the year, such as Cheltenham Literature Festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Cheltenham Science Festival, Cheltenham Food and Drink Festival, Cheltenham Music Festival, and Cheltenham Cricket Festival.
